My first draft seemed super long in the body. When I made the toile the bottom button location (waistline) was about 4 inches below my belly button. Where is the ideal location for the bottom button (waistline)? My understanding is it’s at the belly button.

It was the style in the 1860s to have a longer waist, I’d say two or three inches below the belly button or your natural waist. Was the back to the top of the pleats too long as well? Feel free to send me some photos if you’d like me to take a closer look.

I sent my photos to your Facebook page. I figured it’d be the easiest way. Thank you!

was I supposed to use the graduated ruler to draft the entire pattern or just the initial square marks? Just reading the last few steps where it specifically calls for the graduated ruler makes me wonder. None of the measurements are catastrophically off when I use a normal ruler though. just curious.

Yes, use the graduated rulers for the entire draft. You can then use your actual measurements to compare if necessary. Sorry about the confusion!

the ruller i am using is for a 41″ chest. my draft measures 44″. would you say that 3″ ease is typical? just wondering if I am even close.

Yes, I think 3″ ease will work.
