Deep dive into portrait photography
Create an 1860s style cravat, a perfect way to complete your impression.

Learn how to draft and construct an 1860s silk cravat.
This is a very short course on drafting and constructing a silk 1860s cravat, as seen in many photos from the period. The entire course can be completed in a couple of hours and is great for the beginner and more advanced tailor needing to complete outfits. I recommend using scraps from other projects, but you could also get a yard or two and make a waistcoat from the rest. I’m recommending silk for the cravat as that’s all I’ve seen so far in photos and in originals, but it seems that linen and other lighter materials might have been used as well.
Supplies List
- Silk taffeta, brocade, or linen (scraps are great!)
